योनिः, पुं, स्त्री, (यौति संयोजयतीति । यु + “वहिश्रिश्रुयुद्रुग्लाहात्वरिभ्यो नित् ।” उणा० ४ । ५१ । इति निः ।) आकरः । इति मेदिनी । ने, १६ ॥ कारणम् । (यथा, उत्तरराम- चरिते । ६ । “ऋषयो राक्षसीमाहुर्वाचमुन्मत्तदृप्तयोः । सा योनिः सर्व्ववैराणां सा हि लोकस्य निरृतिः ॥”) जलम् । इति हेमचन्द्रः । ३ । २४९ ॥ (कुश- द्बीपस्थनदीविशेषः । यथा, मार्कण्डेये । १२१ । ७१ । “धूतपापा नदी नाम योनिश्चैव पुनः स्मृता । सीता द्वितीया विज्ञेया सा चैव हि निशा- स्मृता ॥” तन्त्रशास्त्रविशेषः । यथा, महासिद्धिसारस्वते । मतिमान्नैव तप्येत परार्थेषु कदाचन । ईदृशीं बुद्धिमास्थाय मम कर्म्माणि कुर्व्वते । तिर्य्यग्योनिं न गच्छेत मम लोकाय गच्छति ॥” इति वराहपुराणे योनिगर्भमोक्षणनामाध्यायः ॥

Any place of birth or origin, generating cause, spring, fountain; स्वासु योनिषु शाम्यति Ms.9.321; सा योनिः सर्ववैराणां सा हि लोकस्य निर्ऋतिः U.5.3; जगद्योनिरयोनिस्त्वम् Ku.2.9;4.43; oft. at the end of comp. in the sense of 'sprung or produced from'; ये हि संस्पर्शजा भोगा दुःखयोनय एव ते Bg. 5.22.
