पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

--are twelve in number created by ब्रह्मा, bodies of मन्त्र used in यज्ञस्; these are दर्श, पौर्ण- मास, बृहद्य, रथन्तरम्, वित्ति, विवित्ति, आकूति, कूति, विज्ञासा, विज्ञात, मनस् and यज्ञ। These were again born as Jitas in the Svayambhuva epoch. ब्रह्मा asked them to observe household duties and यज्ञस्, but they took to ज्ञान। The enraged creator cursed them to undergo seven वृत्तिस्। They were born in turn as Ajitas, तुषितस्, Satyas, Haraya, वैकुण्थस्, साद्यस्, and आदित्यस्.
