(I)--a तीर्थ sacred to Hari. Sages of this place visited द्वारका; was visited by बलराम; फलकम्:F1:  भा. (II)--(माहात्म्यम्): मर्कण्डेय to युधिष्ठिर on; here is प्रजापतिक्षेत्र; people who bathe here go to heaven and who die here are liberated from सम्सार; guarded by Indra; there are five deep channels in प्रयागा with the Ganges flowing in their midst. Sins are washed off by entering its boundary. The goddess यमुना, the daughter of the Sun God is ever present: It is a place haunted by the Gods, Asuras, ऋषिस् and Siddhas; फलकम्:F1:  M. ch. १०४.फलकम्:/F one who remembers प्रयागा from his own native home or from a foreign place on the eve of his death goes to the world of ब्रह्मा. Leaving the heaven, he is reborn as a King of जम्बूद्वीप; gifts of cows, jewels and gold here attain great merit: The giver is born in Uttara Kuru regions and enjoys long life. फलकम्:F2:  Ib. ch. १०५.फलकम्:/F One should not drive to the place in a conveyance drawn by bullocks lest the virtue of bathing should be lost. Giving daughters in mar- riage, and death near the अक्षयवट helps one in going to the world of शिव. One should go and do charities with utmost faith. Here are ६० crores and १०००० holy spots; well- known for a शिव shrine: प्रतिष्ठान lies to the east of the Ganges, and to its north lies the Hamsaprapatana तीर्थ। There are again ऊर्वशीरमण, Sandhya वट, कोटी तीर्थ, and others, all holy; फलकम्:F3:  Ib. ch. १०६.फलकम्:/F by merely listening to the greatness of प्रयागा a man gets liberated. To the south of प्रयागा there is a ऋणमोचन तीर्थ where by residing for a night and by bathing, one never runs into debts. A pilgrimage to P. gives the benefit of an अश्वमेध sacrifice: relieves his मनेस् for ten generations: its circumference is five yojanas [page२-428+ ३५] and every step is sacred: the greatness of the यमुना described; फलकम्:F4:  Ib. chh. १०७-8.फलकम्:/F a man dying at P. gets the benefits of a Yogin: the king of all तीर्थस्: P. is again the place where both Kambala and अश्वतर reside. It is the altar of प्रजा- pati. It is more sacred, being situated on the banks of the Ganges. It is the giver of heaven, the personification of bliss and truth: Reading the महात्म्य takes one to heaven; फलकम्:F5:  Ib. chh. १०९-110.फलकम्:/F Here ब्रह्मा, विष्णु and शिव are all present. ब्रह्मा stands on the Northern part of the तीर्थ to protect it: विष्णु is represented as वेणी Ma1dhava, while शिव is present in the shape of a banyan tree. In addition to them, the gods, oceans and mountains also live there. It is known as प्रजापति Indraks2etra. One who remembers this every day attains heaven.
