पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

भगीरथः, पुं, (भं ज्योतिष्कमण्डलं गीर्वाङ्मयं तत्र रथ इन्द्रियाणि रथ इवास्य ।) दिलीपराज- पुत्त्रः । कपिलशापेन भस्मीभूतानामधः पति- तानां पितॄणामुद्धरणायानेन मर्त्त्यलोके गङ्गा आनीता । यथा, मात्स्ये १२ अध्यायः । “असमञ्जसस्तनयो ह्यंशुमान्नाम विश्रुतः । तस्य पुत्त्रो दिलीपस्तु दिलीपात्तु भगीरथः ॥ येन भागीरथी गङ्गा तपः कृत्वावतारिता । भगीरथस्य तनयो नाभाग इति विश्रुतः ॥”

भगीरथः [bhagīrathḥ], N. of an ancient king of the solar dynasty, the great-grandson of Sagara, who brought down, by practising the most austere penance, the celestial river Gaṅgā from heaven to the earth and from earth to the lower regions to purify the ashes of his 6, ancestors, the sons of Sagara. -Comp. -पथः, -प्रयत्नः the path or effort of Bhagīratha, used figuratively to denote any great or Herculean effort. -सुता an epithet of the Ganges.
