 पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्। |
शाकम्भरी, स्त्री, (शाकेन बिभर्त्ति । भृ + खश् । ङीष् ।) दुर्गा । यथा, -- “ततोऽहमखिलं लोकमात्मदेहसमुद्भवेः । भरिष्यामि सुराः शाकैरावृष्टैः प्राणधारकैः ॥ शाकम्भरीति विख्यातिं तदा यास्याम्यहं भुवि । तत्रैव च वधिष्यामि दुर्गमाख्यं महासुरम् ॥” इति मार्कण्डेयपुराणे नारायणीस्तुतिः ॥ अपि च । “भूयः सुरास्तिष्ययुगे निराशना- न्निरीक्ष्य मारीचगृहे समाश्रिता । लोकान् भरिष्यामि तनूजशाकै- स्तदा भविष्यामि शाकम्भरीति ॥” इति वामने ५३ अध्यायः ॥ नगरविशेषः । शाम्भरीति ख्यातः । इति केचित् ॥

शाकम्भरी¦ स्त्री शाकैर्विभर्त्ति भृ--स्वच् मुम् च।
“भरिष्यामिसुराः शाकैरावृष्टेः प्राणधारकैः। शाकम्भरीतिविख्यातिं तदा यास्याम्यहं भुवि” देवीमा॰ निरुक्ता-याम्
१ दुर्गायाम्।
२ रोमकान्तर्गतशाकम्भरनगर्य्यां न॰ तत्रभवं छ। शाकम्भरीय लवणभेदे न॰
“शाकम्भरीयं कथितंगडाख्यं रोमकं तथा! गडाख्यं लघु वातघ्नमत्युष्णंभेदि पित्तलम्। तीक्ष्णं व्यवायि सूक्ष्मञ्चाभिष्यन्दिकटुपाकि च” भावप्र॰।

Śākambharī : f.: Name of a place (sthānam) sacred to goddess Śākambharī.
A. Description: Place of the famous goddess, known in the three worlds as Śākambharī; very difficult of access (devyāḥ sthānaṁ sudurlabham/śākambharīti vikhyātā triṣu lokeṣu viśrutā) 3. 82. 11.
B. Holiness: One who practises austerities and is composed (brahmacārī samāhitaḥ) should visit Śākambharī and stay there for three nights; pure and controlled (niyataḥ śuciḥ) he should eat only vegetables; he thereby obtains the fruit of living only on vegetables for twelve years; this happens by the will of the goddess (śākāhārasya yat samyag varṣair dvādaśabhiḥ phalam/tat phalaṁ tasya bhavāt devyāś chandena) 3. 82. 14-15 (Nī. on Bom. Ed. 3. 84. 18: chandena icchayā).
