पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

सावित्रम्, क्ली, (सविता देवता अस्येति । अण् ।) यज्ञोपवीतम् । इति शब्दरत्नावली ॥ (तत्- सम्बन्धिनि, त्रि । यथा, भागबते । ४ । ३१ । १० । “किं जन्मभिस्त्रिभिर्व्वेह शौक्रसावित्रयाज्ञिकैः । कर्म्मभिर्वा त्रयीप्रोक्तैः पुंसोऽपि बिबुधायुसा ॥”

सावित्रः, पुं, (सविता देवता अस्येति । अण् ।) ब्राह्मणः । इति हेमचन्द्रः ॥ शङ्करः । वसुः । इति मेदिनी ॥ (स्वार्थे अण् ।) सूर्य्यः । गर्भः । इति शब्दरत्नावली ॥ (सवितुरपत्यं पुमान् । अण् । कर्णः । यथा, महाभारते । १ । १३७ । ८ । “सोऽव्रवीत् मेघगम्भीरस्वरेण वदतां वरः । भ्राता भ्रातरमज्ञातं सावित्रः पाकशासनिम् ॥” सूर्य्यवंशीये, त्रि । यथा, उत्तरचरिते १ अङ्के । “यत् सावित्रैर्दीपितं भूमिपालै- र्लोकश्रेष्ठैः साधु शुद्धं चरित्रम् । मत्सम्बन्धात् कश्मला किंवदन्ती स्याच्चेदस्मिन् हन्त धिक् मामधन्यम् ॥” सवितृसम्बन्धिनि च त्रि । यथा, मनुः । ४ । १५० । “सावित्रान् शान्तिहोमांश्च कुर्य्यात् पर्व्वसु नित्यशः ॥”)

“त्रिदशैरर्चिता देवी वेदभागेषु पूजिता। भाव-शुद्धस्वरूपा तु सावित्री तेन सा स्मृता” वह्निपु॰। अन्यानिरुक्तिः
“सर्वलोकप्रसवनात् सविता स तु कीर्त्त्यते। यतस्तद्देवता देवी सावित्रीत्युच्यते ततः। वेदप्रसवनाच्चापि सावित्री प्रोच्यते बुधैः”। ब्रह्मपत्नी च शतरूपा
“ततः संजपतस्तस्य भित्त्वा देहमकल्मषम्। स्त्रीरूपामर्द्धमकरोदर्द्धं पुरुषरूपवत्। शतरूपा च सा ख्यातासावित्री च निगद्यते। सरस्वत्यथ गायत्री ब्रह्माणी चपरन्तप!” मत्स्यपु॰

The holy verse of the Ve4das, the repetition of which forms an essential part of the ceremonies, enjoined to the Bra4hman, as daily observances: the prayer is personified as the wife of BRAHMA4, and mystical mother of the Hindu classes, which are regenerated by investiture with the sacrificial string.

Described as heavenly (divya) 6. 116. 38; Droṇa employed it (as also other missiles) against Yudhiṣṭhira in order to kill him (jighāṁsuḥ) 7. 132. 29; Yudhiṣṭhira defeated it by the use of the same (?) missile (tāni cāstrāṇi dharmajaḥ/jaghānāstrair mahābāhuḥ kumbhayoner avitrasan) 7. 132. 30; however, according to Bhīṣma, among men, the use of this missile (savitur astram) was known only to Arjuna, and perhaps to Kṛṣṇa, and to none else (nānyo vai veda kaścana) 6. 116. 38-39.
