चुमुरिः [cumuriḥ], N. of a demon whom Indra killed to favour Dabhīti; स्वप्नेनाभ्युप्या चुमुरिं धुनिं च जघन्थ दस्युं प्र दभीतिमावः Rv.2.15.9.

Cumuri is the name of an enemy of Dabhīti, for whom he, along with his friend Dhuni, is mentioned in the Rigveda[१] as having been defeated by Indra. Elsewhere[२] the two are spoken of, along with Śambara, Pipru, and Śuṣṇa, as having been crushed by Indra, who destroyed their castles. It is impossible to say whether real men or demons are meant, but in favour of a man being denoted by Cumuri is the form of the name, which seems not to be Āryan.[३]
