Mentioned by Saṁjaya among the (northern) Janapadas (also called Deśas 6. 10. 68) of the Bhāratavarṣa (ata ūrdhvaṁ janapadān nibodha gadato mama) 6. 10. 37, 5; (oṣṭrā puṇḍrāḥ) 6. 10. 56; in Saṁjaya's enumeration, immediately after these follow the southern Janapadas (athāpare janapadā dakṣiṇā bharatarṣabha) 6. 10. 56.
