पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

चैद्यः, पुं, (चेदीनां जनपदानां राजा । चेदि + ष्यञ् ।) शिशुपालः । स तु दमघोषसुतः । इति जटाधरः ॥ (यथा, माधे । २ । ३८ । “त्वया विप्रकृतश्चैद्यो रुक्मिणीं हरता हरे ॥” चेदिराजवसुः । इति पुराणम् ॥) तद्देशीये पुं भूम्नि । इति त्रिकाण्डशेषः ॥

(I)--a son of युधिष्ठिर's aunt and Dama- घोष and brother of Dantavaktra. Both were once attend- ants on Hari and born on earth by the curse of Brahmanas. It happened thus. Once Sananda and other sons of ब्रह्मा went to विष्णुलोक and were prevented by them, as door- keepers, from entering वैकुण्ठ. Hence they were cursed to be born as Asuras. They were born as हिरण्यकशिपु and हिरण्याक्ष, then as रावण and कुम्भकर्ण, and now as Caidya and Dantavaktra. फलकम्:F1:  भा. VII. १०. ३५-46.फलकम्:/F Hated कृष्ण, beaten by him in स्व्यम्वर। An ally of जरासन्ध, he was stationed at the eastern gate of मथुरा. कृष्ण directed his attack against Caidya. CAIDYA : Śiśupāla, king of Cedi. Dhṛṣṭaketu, King of Cedi, is also known by this name. It was this Caidya who led the Krauñcavyūha created by Dhṛṣṭadyumna in the great battle. (Krauñcavyūha = A battle array in the shape of a stork). (Śloka 47, Chapter 50, Bhīṣma Parva).
