पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

दरदम्, क्ली, (दर ईषत् दायति शुध्यतीति । दै + कः ।) हिङ्गुलम् । इति राजनिर्घण्टः ॥ (क्वचित् पुंलिङ्गेऽपि दृश्यते । अस्य पर्य्यायो यथा, -- “रक्तं मर्कटशीर्षञ्च हिङ्गुलं दरदो रसः ॥” इति वैद्यकरत्नमालायाम् ॥ पर्य्यायान्तरं यथा, -- “हिङ्गुलन्दरदं म्लेच्छं चित्राङ्गञ्चूणपारदम् । दरदस्त्रिविधः प्रोक्तश्चर्म्मारः शुकतुण्डकः ॥ हंसपादस्तृतीयः स्याद्गुणवानुत्तरोत्तरम् । चर्म्मारः शुक्लवर्णः स्यात् सपीतः शुकतुण्डकः ॥ जवाकुसुमसङ्काशो हंसपादो महोत्तमः ॥” इति भावप्रकाशस्य पूर्ब्बस्वण्डे प्रथमे भागे ॥ “दरदं तण्डुस्थूलं कृत्वा मृत्पात्रके त्रिदिनम् । भार्ञ्च जम्बीररसैश्चाङ्गेर्य्या वा रसैर्बहुधा ॥ ततश्च जम्बीरवारिणा चाङ्गेर्य्या रसेन परिप्लुतम् । कृत्वा स्थालीमध्ये निधाय तदुपरिकठिनीघृष्टम् ॥ चारु शरावं तत्र त्रिंशद्वारं जलं देयं उष्णे हेयं तथैव तदूर्द्ध्वपातनेन निर्म्मलं शिवजः ॥” “हिङ्गुले हिङ्गुलुर्याति दरदः शुकतुण्डकः । रसगन्धकसम्भूतो हिङ्गुलो दैत्यरक्तकः ॥ अम्लवर्गद्रवैः पिष्ट्वा दरदो माहिषेण च । दुग्धेन सप्तधा पिष्टः शुष्कीभूतो विशुध्यति ॥ अन्यच्च । मेषीदुग्धेन दरदमम्लवर्गैर्विभावितम् । सप्तवारं प्रयत्नेन शुद्धिमायाति निश्चितम् ॥ अन्यमतम् । दरदं दोलिकायन्त्रे पक्वं जम्बीरजैर्द्रवैः । सप्तवारमजामूत्रैर्भावितं शुद्धिमेति हि ॥” इति वैद्यकरसेन्द्रसारसंग्रहे जारणमारणाधि- कारे ॥)

दरदः, पुं, (दरं भयं ददातीति । दा + कः ।) देश- विशेषः । भयम् । म्लेच्छजातिभेदः । इति शब्दरत्नावली ॥ (अयन्तु पूर्ब्बं क्षत्त्रिय आसीत् पश्चात् क्रमशः उपनयनादिक्रियालोपात् शूद्र- त्वादिकं प्राप्तः । यदुक्तं मनौ । १० । ४३-४४ । “शनकैस्तु क्रियालोपादिमाः क्षत्त्रियजातयः । वृषलत्वं गता लोके ब्राह्मणादर्शनेन च ॥ पौण्ड्रकाश्चौड्रद्रविडाः काम्बोजा जवनाः शकाः । पारदा पह्नवाश्चीनाः किराता दरदाः खशाः ॥”)

दरद¦ त्रि॰ दरं भयं ददाति दा--क दर ईषत् दायति शुध्यतिदैप--शोधे--क वा।

१ भयदायके

२ हिङ्गुले पु॰ न॰भावप्र॰ तद्भेदादिकमुक्तं यथा
“हिङ्गुलं दरदंस्रेच्छमिङ्गुलञ्चूर्णपारदम् दरदस्त्रिविधः प्रोक्त-श्चर्मारः शुक्रतुण्डकः। हंसपादस्तृतीयः स्याद्गुण-[Page3471-b+ 38] वानुत्तरोत्तरम्। चर्मारः शुक्लवर्णः स्यात् सपीतः शुक-तुण्डकः। जवाकुसुमसङ्काशो हंसपादो महोत्तमः। तिक्तं कषायं कटुहिङ्गुलं स्यान्नेत्रामयघ्नङ्कफपित्तहारि। हृल्लासकुष्ठज्वरकामलांश्च प्लीहामवातौ च गरन्निहन्ति। ऊर्द्ध्वपातनयुक्त्या तु डमरुयन्त्रपाचितम्। हिङ्गुलं तस्यसूतन्तु शुद्धमेवं न शोधयेत्।

१४ अ॰ ऐशान्यामुक्तः ऐशान्यामित्युपक्रमे अभिसार-दरदतङ्गणकुलूतसैरिन्ध्रवनराष्ट्राः”

९ अ॰। प्राच्यो-दीच्यदेशोक्तौ। सोऽभिजनोऽस्य तस्य राजा वा अण्। दारद पित्रादिक्रमेण तद्देशवासिनि तन्नृपे च। बहुषुअणो लुक्।
“गृहीत्वा तु बलं सारं फाल्गुनः पाण्डु-नण्डनः। दरदान् सह काम्बोजैरजयत् पाकशासनिः। प्रागुत्तरां दिशं ये च वसन्त्याश्रित्य दस्यवः। निवसन्तिवते ये च तान् सर्वानजयत् प्रभुः” भा॰ स॰

B. Origin: They arose from the foam of the cow of Vasiṣṭha (tathaiva daradān mlecchān phenataḥ sā sasarja ha) 1. 165. 36; Daradas mentioned among those Kṣatriyas who became vṛṣalas due to not respecting Brāhmaṇas 13. 35. 17-18.

(1) Arjuna defeated them in his expedition before the Rājasūya 2. 24. 22;
