पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

मन्त्रः, पुं, (मन्त्र्यते गुप्तं परिभाष्यते इति । मत्रि गुप्तभाषणे + घञ् । यद्वा, मन्त्रयते गुप्तं भाषते इति । मत्रि गुप्तभाषणे + अच् ।) वेद- भेदः । स च मन्त्रस्वरूपभागः ॥ (यथा, ऋग्वेदे । ६७ । ४ । ७४ । “प्रनूनं ब्रह्मणपतिर्मन्त्रं वदत्युक्थम् ॥” यथा च मनुः । २ । १६ । “निषेकादिश्मशानान्तो मन्त्रैर्यस्योदितो विधिः । तस्य शास्त्रेऽधिकारोऽस्मिन् ज्ञेयो नान्यस्य कस्यचित् ॥” तन्त्राद्युक्तमन्त्रभागश्च । यथा, मनौ । ७ । २१७ । “सुपरीक्षितमन्नाद्यमद्यान्मन्त्रैर्विषापहैः ॥”) गुप्तिवादः । स तु रहसि कर्त्तव्यावधारणं मन्त्र- णेति ख्यातम् । इत्यमरभरतौ ॥ परामर्शः । मन्त्रणा । (यथा, माधे । २ । २९ । “मन्त्रो योध इवाधीरः सर्व्वाङ्गैः संवृतैरपि । चिरं न सहते स्थातुं परेभ्यो भेदशङ्कया ॥”) व्यङ्गादिभ्यो मन्त्रणाग्रहणस्य निषेधो यथा, -- “व्यङ्गाङ्गहीना वधिराः कुयोनिषु रताश्च ये । तेषां मन्त्रो न सुखदः प्रोक्तः कविभिरेव च ॥ कामुकानां जडानाञ्च स्त्रीजितानां तथैव च । श्वशुरस्य गृहे नित्यं जासाता कर्म्मकारकः । “विंशत्यर्णाधिका मन्त्रा मालामन्त्राश्च कीर्त्तिताः । नपुंसकस्य मन्त्रस्य सिद्धादीन्नैव शोधयेत् ॥ हंसस्याष्टाक्षरस्यापि तथा पञ्चाक्षरस्य च । एकद्वित्र्यादिबीजस्य सिद्धादीन्नैव शोधयेत् ॥ तथा । एकाक्षरस्य मन्त्रस्य मालामन्त्रस्य पार्व्वति ! । वैदिकस्य च मन्त्रस्य सिद्धादीन्नैव शोधयेत् ॥” तथा चामुण्डातन्त्रे । “काली तारा महाविद्या षोडशी भुवनेश्वरी । भैरवी छिन्नमस्ता च विद्या धूमावती तथा ॥ वगला सिद्धविद्या च मातङ्गी कमलात्मिका । एता दश महाविद्याः सिद्धविद्याः प्रकीर्त्तिताः ॥ नात्र सिद्धाद्यपेक्षास्ति न नक्षत्रविचारणा । कालादिशोधनं नास्ति न चामित्रादिदूषणम् ॥ सिद्धविद्यातया नात्र युगसेवापरिश्रमः । नास्ति किञ्चिन्महादेवि ! दुःखसाध्यं कथञ्चन ॥” पृथिव्यां पूर्णफलप्रदा महाविद्या । यथा, मालिनीविजये । “अथ वक्ष्याम्यहं या या महाविद्या महीतले । दोषजालैरसंस्पृष्टास्ताः सर्व्वा हि फलैः सह ॥ काली नीला महादुर्गा त्वरिता च्छिन्नमस्तका । वाग्वादिनी चान्नपूर्णा तथा प्रत्यङ्गिरा पुनः ॥ कामाख्या वासली बाला मातङ्गीशैलवासिनी । इत्याद्याः सकला विद्याः कलौ पूर्णफलप्रदाः ॥ सिद्धमन्त्रतया नात्र युगसेवापरिश्रमः । तथा चैता महाविद्याः कलिदोषान्न वाधिताः ॥” इत्यादिवचनादेषु विचारो नास्ति । वस्तुतस्तु इदं प्रशंसापरम् । सर्व्वत्र विचारस्यावश्यक- त्वम् । दुरदृष्टवशात् कदाचिद्वैरिमन्त्रस्य स्वप्नादौ प्राप्त्या तत्तद्दोषस्य दृष्टत्वात् । इति तु साम्प्र- दायिकाः ॥ * ॥ मन्त्रोद्धारार्थषट्चक्रप्रमाणानि चक्रशब्दे द्रष्टव्यानि । तेषां लेखनप्रकारा यथा,

A Vedic hymn or sacred prayer (addressed to any deity), a sacred text; (it is of three kinds: it is called ऋच् if metrical and intended to be loudly recited; यजुस् if in prose and muttered in a low tone; and सामन् if, being metrical, it is intended for chanting).
