पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

महापद्मः, पुं, (महत् पद्मं तावृशं चिह्नं शिरसि यस्य ।) अष्टनागान्तर्गतनागभेदः । तत्पर्य्यायः । अतिशुक्लः २ दशबिन्दुकमस्तकः ३ । इति हेमचन्द्रः । ४ । ३७५ ॥ (यथा, हरि- वंशे । ३ । ११२ । “ऐरावतो महापद्मः कम्बलाश्वतरावुभौ ॥” दर्व्वीकरान्तर्गतसर्पविशेषः । तद् यथा । “कृष्ण- सर्पो महाकृष्णः कृष्णोदरः श्वेतकपोतो महा- कोपोतो बलाहको महासर्पः शङ्खपालो लोहि- ताक्षो गवेधुकः परिसर्पः खण्डफणः ककुदः पद्मो महापद्मो दर्भपुब्पो दधिमुखः पुण्डरीको भ्रुकुटीमुखो विष्किरः पुष्पाभिकर्णो गिरि- सर्प ऋजुसर्पः श्वेतोदरो महाशिरा अलगर्द्द आशीविष इति ॥” इति सुश्रुते कल्पस्थाने चतुर्थेऽध्याये ॥) कुवेरस्य नवनिध्यन्तर्गतनिधि- विशेषः । इति जटाधरः ॥ (यथा, मार्कण्डेये । ६४ । १५ । “यस्या वत्से ! प्रभावेण विद्यायास्तां गृहाण मे । पद्मिनी नाम विद्येयं महापद्माभिपूजिता ॥” पुरभेदः । यथा, महाभारते । १२ । ३५३ । १ । “आसीत् किल नरश्रेष्ठ ! महापद्मे पुरोत्तमे । गङ्गाया दक्षिणे तीरे कश्चिद्विप्रः समाहितः ॥” दैत्यभेदः । यथा, हरिवंशे । २३२ । ३ । “महापद्मो निकुम्भश्च पूर्णकुम्भश्च वीर्य्यवान् ॥” हस्तिभेदः । यथा, महाभारते । ६ । ६१ । ५१ । “तस्य चान्येऽपि दिङ्मागा बभुवुरनुयायिनः । अञ्जनो वामनश्चैव महापद्मश्च सुप्रभः ॥”) क्ली, लक्षकोटिसंख्या ॥ इति लीलावती ॥ (यथा, महाभारते । २ । ६१ । ३ । “अयुतं प्रयुतं चैव पद्मं खर्व्वमथार्व्वुदम् । शङ्खञ्चैव महापद्मं निखर्व्वं कोटिरेव च ॥”) शुक्लपद्मम् । इति रत्नमाला ॥

One of the great elephants (mahānāgas), the diṅnāgas, created by Ghaṭotkaca with his māyā; Rākṣasas mounted them and followed Ghaṭotkaca on his Airāvata (also created by māyā) when he attacked Bhagadatta on his elephant; they all were of huge shape, with rut flowing from temples, very strong and endowed with lustre; they had four tusks 6. 60. 51, 50, 52, 54; excellent elephants born in the kula of Mahāpadma were killed by Sātyaki in the war 7. 97. 24, 26.
