Viṣāṇakā is the name of a plant in the Atharvaveda.[१] Bloomfield,[२] however, thinks that the word may merely mean ‘horn.’ It is used as a remedy against the disease Vātīkāra.[३] That disease is of doubtful character: Zimmer[४] thinks that it is one ‘caused by wounds,’ comparing the adjective a-vāta, ‘uninjured,’ in the Rigveda,[५] but Bloomfield[६] shows that ‘wind’ in the body is meant as causing the disease.
Viṣāṇakā, 2, 313, headline, for ‘31,’ read ‘313.’
