“तेज वा एत-क्ष्योर्यदाञ्जनम्” ऐ॰ ब्रा॰ अञ्जनायां भवः अण्।
२ हनु-मति वानरभेदे स च दाशरथिसहायः
“दाशरथिवलैरिवाञ्ज-ननीलनलपरिगतप्रान्तैः” काद॰। अञ्जनस्येदम् अण्,।

आञ्जन [āñjana], a. (-नी f.) [अञ्जनस्येदं-अण्] Anointing or belonging to ointment.
नम् Ointment, especially for the eyes.

Āñjana.--A salve frequently referred to in the Atharvaveda,[१] which came from Mount Trikakubh[२] in the Himālaya, and was used to anoint the eyes.[३] The region of the Yamunā[४] is also given as a possible place of origin, and the ointment is declared as potent to remove jaundice, Yakṣma, Jāyānya, and other diseases.[५] A female ointment-maker is mentioned in the list of victims of the Puruṣamedha (‘human sacrifice’).[६]
