Ṛṣis.--The term ‘Seven Ṛṣis’ denotes the ‘Great Bear’ (see 1. Ṛkṣa) in one passage of the Rigveda,[१] and occasionally later.[२] This is probably a secondary use, instead of the seven Ṛkṣas, brought about by the frequent mention of the seven Ṛṣis.
