Vāsiṣṭha, ‘descendant of Vasiṣṭha,’ is the patronymic of Sātyahavya, a teacher mentioned several times in the later Saṃhitās,[१] of Rauhina in the Taittirīya Āraṇyaka,[२] and of Caikitāneya.[३] Moreover, reference is made to the claim of the Vāsiṣṭhas to be Brahman priest at the sacrifice.[४] A Vāsiṣṭha is mentioned as a teacher in the Vaṃśa Brāhmaṇa[५] and the Jaiminīya Upaniṣad Brāhmaṇa.[६]
