पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

स्वाती, पुं, स्त्री, (स्वेनैव अततीति । अत + इम् । वा ङीष् ।) अश्विन्यादिसप्त- विंशतिनक्षत्रान्तर्गतपञ्चदशनक्षत्रम् । इत्यमरः । ३ । ५ । ३८ ॥ हस्ता स्वाती श्रवणा अक्लीवे । इति तिथ्यादितत्त्वम् ॥ स च कुङ्कुमसदृशारुण- तरैकतारकः । अस्याधिदेवता पवनः । यथा, “कुङ्कुमारुणतरैकतारके वायुभे सुदति मौलिमागते । शायकाम्बरचराचलाः कला- श्चञ्चलाक्षि जगदुर्मृगोदयात् ॥” शायकाम्बरचराचलाः कला- श्चञ्चलाक्षि जगदुर्मृगोदयात् ॥” दं ३ । १५ । इति कालिदासकृतरात्रिलग्न- निरूपकग्रन्थः ॥ तस्य रूपं विद्रुमप्रबालसदृ- शम् । इति मुहूर्त्तचिन्तामणिः ॥ * ॥ तत्र जात- फलम् । “कन्दर्परूपप्रभया समेतः कान्ताजनप्रीतिरतिप्रसन्नः । स्वातिः प्रसूतौ यदि नित्यं स्वात् महामतिः प्रातविभूतियोगः ॥” इति कोष्ठीप्रदीपः ॥

13. Svātī or Niṣṭyā is later clearly the brilliant star Arcturus or Bootis, its place in the north being assured by the notice in the Śāntikalpa, where it is said to be ‘ever traversing the northern way’ (nityam uttara-mārgagam). The Taittirīya Brāhmaṇa, however, constructs an asterismal Prajāpati, giving him Citrā (a Virginis) for head, Hasta (Corvus) for hand, the Viśākhe (a and Libræ) for thighs, and the Anurādhās (, and Scorpionis) for standing place, with Niṣṭyā for heart. But Arcturus, being 30º out, spoils this figure, while, on the other hand, the Arabic and Chinese systems have respectively, instead of Arcturus, , and Virginis and Virginis, which would well fit into the Prajāpati figure. But in spite of the force of this argument of Weber's, Whitney is not certain that Niṣṭyā here must mean a star in Virgo, pointing out that the name Niṣṭyā, ‘outcast,’ suggests the separation of this Nakṣatra from the others in question.
