“द्वयोः प्रणीयन्तीत्यधिकरणे पर्वचतुष्टयविहितायाउत्तरवेदेर्ग पर्वद्वये प्रतिषेध उपपद्यते तत्र पर्वद्वयेविकल्पसापेक्षं बिधानं पर्वद्वये च निरपेक्षमिति” दायभा॰
“पर्वचतुष्टयेति चातुर्मास्ययागपसङ्गे वैश्वदेव-वरुणप्रघासशाकमेधसुनासीरीयाख्याश्चत्वारो यागाः चा-तुर्माससाध्या उक्ताः तत्र च
“उपात्र वपन्ति न वैश्वदेवेन सुनासीरीये उरू वा एतौ यज्ञस्य यद्वरुणप्रघासः शाक-मेधश्चेति द्वयोः प्रणयन्तीति” श्रुतिरस्ति। अस्यार्थः अत्रपर्वसंज्ञके यागचतुष्के उत्तरवेदिम् उपवपन्ति निर्षपन्तिसम्पादयन्तीत्यर्थः इति उत्तरवेदिः अग्निप्रणयनपा-त्रम्” श्रीकृष्णः। एतच्च श्रौतकर्मानभिज्ञानादुक्तम्

“वक्ष्यमाणेन प्रकारेण उत्तरस्यां वेदौ उत्तरवेदिं निर्व-पति उत्तरवेदिरिति वक्ष्यमाणसंस्कारसंस्वृतस्य चात्वा-समृदा कृतस्य स्थण्डिलस्य नामधेयम्” कर्कः। तदु-त्तरत्र सूत्रेषु तन्निर्माणप्रकार उक्तः चात्वालशब्देच शत॰ ब्रा॰ भाष्यवाक्यं दृश्यम्।

पर्वन् [parvan], n. [पॄ-वनिप् Uṇ.4.112.] पर्व स्यादुत्सवे ग्रन्थौ प्रस्तावे लक्षणान्तरे' इति विश्वः.
A knot, joint; मासाश्चार्धमासाश्च पर्वाणि; Bṛi. Up.1.1.1. (Sometimes changed to पर्व at the end of Bah. comp.; as in कर्कशाङ्गुलिपर्वया R.12.41.) सो$हं दुर्मायिनस्ते$द्य वज्रेण शतपर्वणा, शिरो हरिष्ये Bhāg.8.11.6; सतामिवापर्वणि मार्गणानाम् Ki.17.29.

Parvan denotes the knots of the reed or the joints of a plant,[१] and more generally a part or limb of the body.[२] It also designates a period of time, probably with reference to the breaks in the month at new and full moon.[३] In one passage[४] Geldner[५] thinks the word indicates a song section of the Sāmaveda.
